Maine Skilled Trades & Engineering Scholarships
Program Overview
In 2025, we launched our Irving Forest Products Maine Scholarship Program to help local students build careers in skilled trades and engineering without having to leave the area they call home.
The scholarships cover up to $6,000 a year for engineering students and up to $4,000 a year for skilled trades students – renewable based on performance. 50% is paid at the start of each semester.
They come with paid summer internships at the Ashland Sawmill, Dixfield Sawmill or Masardis Sawmill.
Plus, guaranteed full-time employment with Irving Forest Products after graduation.
Application Criteria
The programs are open to grade 12, university students, and mature students looking to pursue studies at a Maine post-secondary institution in the mechanical, electrical, power engineering and instrumentation fields.
Must be a resident of one of the following counties in the state of Maine:
- Androscoggin
- Aroostook
- Franklin
- Oxford
- Penobscot
Enrolled in a 4-year program at an accredited university in Maine in one of the following Engineering degree programs:
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Power
Or enrolled in a 2-year degree or certification program within the Maine Community College system in one of the following programs:
- Mechanical
- Electrical / Instrumentation
- Power Engineering / High Pressure Boiler Operations
Must provide a copy of your resume, proof of program enrollment, and complete designated assessments and interviews.
Must designate desired location/site and agree to participate in a paid work term.
Applicants can be a current employee or a dependent (spouse or child) of an employee.
